Dear friends, dear animal lovers!
We are a small animal protection organization named “Hearts for Dogs”, in Bucharest Romania.
Hearts for Dogs has 3 active members and 4 voluntary members.
Our current purpose and goal is to solve the problem of the dogs that we have been taking care of for some years. Most of these dogs had been abandoned by another organization that could no longer take care of them. Others, we have taken from the streets of Bucharest because they were in a very difficult situation, heath-wise or without a home and caring. Currently, we take care of them, about 120 dogs, in a shelter in Bucharest; Initially ,they were much more numerous, but with the help and cooperation with our friends from ”Fellchen in Not” Organization and Herzblut fuer Katzen and others, a number of dogs now have a happy and comfortable life with their new adoptive families! Since we started our collaboration in 2009 with “Fellchen in Not” organization, many dogs have found a loving and caring family!
The big problem is that we do not own the land on which the shelter is situated. Our activities and presence there is allowed by an agreement with the land owner- valid until 2013. After that, we will be forced to close our shelter and evacuate! The only solution for these dogs is to be adopted until such time comes!
Of course, you will ask why we do not look for another location. The answer is simple: very few people here in Romania care about animals, bureaucracy is always an obstacle, and almost nobody wants to live in the proximity of a dog shelter! Therefore, we do not have the support of the authorities that issue the legal operating permits and licenses required for a dog’s shelter close to the capital city.
We do not have financial support, either. Until now, we have had only one sponsor here in Romania, a man with a big heart, Mr. Cristian Marinescu. For the next 3 years, thanks to him, we will be able to take care of the number of dogs mentioned above. However, after this limited period of time, the money will not solve the difficult situation of the dogs from this shelter!
We strongly believe in adoptions, but here in Romania people are not interested in adopting a suffering, helpless dog or cat from a shelter. We believe that a shelter is a well administrated location that offers the time and caring (food, medical care etc.), all vital to the transition to a better life for animals with loving, adoptive families!
We have big hopes that you have read this message and will help us give a chance to every adoptable dog from our shelter!
Thanking you in advance, we wish you
All the Best!
Hearts for Dogs Team!
