A small update on Cara and some photos and videos from her current foster. Cara is recovering slowly after her surgery, but it's so sad to see a dog in this state - not as much the physical state (although she is so skinny that you can feel all her bones), but her mental one.
Cara seems always stresses and not at ease. She either stands perfectly still or hides whenever she gets a chance and can find a suitable place. She is that scared of people, that you can do to her anything, she has no reaction other then freezing - it's heartbreaking. She is now with a nice older lady, who has 3 more big size dogs and who can keep her only until the 19th, when her stiches will be removed. The lady has a lot of experience with all sorts of medical cases, so she is perfect for Cara. For now, Cara is living alone in a room that is normally used for storage, but it's warm and she is not stresses there by the other dogs and has time to cope with the changes. She gets small portions of soup with beef, canned wet food and semi-soft kibble. She takes her medicines hidden in some canned food, to not stress her, however when I visited I was also able to put the medicines directly on her mouth with no problems. She doesn't want to get out on a leash in order to pee/poop, but her foster is ok with that as it's short term and doesn't want to push and stress her.
On the bright side, Cara has never shown any aggressive response what so ever. She also ate good food from my hand and these are both great premises for her recovery in terms of mental state and getting her to be closer to what a normal dog is. Any living being should be able to take joy in their life and I really hope Cara will get at that point some day. However, that will not happen in the pound or in any type of shelter - she needs close contact to a human being who knows how to work with dogs like her and who can teach her life can be good.
We're not sure yet what to do with Cara after the 19th - we're still looking for solutions, because we wouldn't want to take her back to the pound after all she's been though. We're still struggling also with the costs for her surgery - 9049.7 lei - around 1780 Euros, so any help is highly appreciated, as there are a lot of emergencies in the pound this December and, as you know, we rely entirely on donations to help the dogs.

Ein kleines Update zu Cara und einige Fotos und Videos von ihrer jetzigen Pflegestelle. Cara erholt sich langsam von ihrer Operation, aber es ist so traurig, einen Hund in diesem Zustand zu sehen – weniger ihr körperlicher Zustand (obwohl sie so dünn ist, dass man jedes einzelne Knochen spürt), sondern vielmehr ihr seelischer.
Cara wirkt ständig gestresst und unruhig. Sie steht entweder ganz still oder versteckt sich, sobald sie die Gelegenheit dazu hat und einen geeigneten Platz findet. Sie hat so große Angst vor Menschen, dass sie, egal was man ihr antut, nur erstarrt – es ist herzzerreißend. Sie ist jetzt bei einer netten älteren Dame, die drei weitere große Hunde hat und sie nur bis zum 19. aufnehmen kann, wenn ihre Fäden gezogen werden. Die Dame hat viel Erfahrung mit allen möglichen medizinischen Fällen und ist daher perfekt für Cara. Im Moment lebt Cara allein in einem Raum, der normalerweise als Abstellraum dient. Dort ist es warm, sie hat keinen Stress durch die anderen Hunde und kann sich in Ruhe an die Veränderungen gewöhnen. Sie bekommt kleine Portionen Rindfleischsuppe, Nassfutter aus der Dose und halbweiches Trockenfutter. Ihre Medikamente bekommt sie versteckt im Dosenfutter, um sie nicht zu stressen. Bei meinem Besuch konnte ich ihr die Medikamente aber auch problemlos direkt ins Maul geben. Sie möchte nicht an der Leine laufen, um ihr Geschäft zu verrichten, aber ihre Pflegefamilie hat damit kein Problem, da es nur vorübergehend ist und sie sie nicht drängen und stressen möchte.
Positiv ist, dass Cara noch nie aggressives Verhalten gezeigt hat. Sie hat auch gerne aus meiner Hand gefressen, was beides sehr gute Voraussetzungen für ihre Genesung und ihr Wohlbefinden sind und dazu beitragen wird, dass sie sich einem normalen Hund annähert. Jedes Lebewesen sollte Freude am Leben haben können, und ich hoffe sehr, dass Cara das eines Tages erleben wird. Im Tierheim oder in einer anderen Art von Tierheim wird das jedoch nicht passieren – sie braucht engen Kontakt zu einem Menschen, der weiß, wie man mit Hunden wie ihr umgeht und ihr zeigen kann, dass das Leben schön sein kann.
Wir sind uns noch nicht sicher, was nach dem 19. mit Cara passiert – wir suchen noch nach Lösungen, denn wir möchten sie nach allem, was sie durchgemacht hat, nicht wieder ins Tierheim bringen. Die Kosten für ihre Operation – 9049,7 Lei (ca. 1780 Euro) – bereiten uns immer noch Kopfzerbrechen. Daher ist jede Hilfe sehr willkommen, da es im Dezember viele Notfälle im Tierheim gibt und wir, wie Sie wissen, vollständig auf Spenden angewiesen sind, um den Hunden zu helfen.
